Mission Statement
The University of Saskatchewan Environmental Soil Chemistry research group applies a variety of molecular-scale spectroscopic tools to study reactions that occur in natural systems.

The primary focus of our research program is determining the reactions that determine fate and toxicity of metals and metalloids in natural systems. Our research currently spans environments as diverse as New Zealand hot springs and Arctic lakes.
Currently our research is focused on:
- Using synchrotron radiation to perform phosphate speciation in biosolids, animal manures and soils
- Determining selenite and selenate bonding mechanisms on a range of mineral surfaces
- Evaluating the utility of extremophilic microorganisms in trace metal removal from industrial effluents
If you would like more information about our research and educational opportunities in our group then contact Dr. Derek Peak either by e-mail or by telephone at 1 (306) 966-6806
